I visited the Steamroller Printing Festival, hosted by the SF Center for the Book, yesterday. They had linoleum blocks for people to carve their own prints into and I managed to snag the last one (sorry kids!). Thinking in negatives was surprisingly challenging - "How do I make a black line? And many intersecting black lines?" I ended up coming up with this flower scene, and may have found a new art love.
I've always admired the look and technique of printmaking, and never thought it could be as accessible as this. I'll see if I can snag some more blocks, some carving tools and a bit of paint sometime soon.
